our methods

  • Tool Sanitation

Tools are scrubbed with soap and water and placed in a high temperature sterilizer.

After sterilization the tools are individually packaged in reusable containers to cut down on paper/plastic waste from autoclave sleeves.

  • Cleaning

All surfaces are wiped down at the start of the day, before and after appointments and at the end of the day.

An additional fifteen minutes has been consciously added between appointments to give ample time to thoroughly sanitize tools, equipment and surfaces.

This is to ensure a safe salon environment for all.

  • Freestanding Foot Basin

Pedicure chairs (with plumbing) can hold bacteria deep inside the drains. This is where most fungal infections can spread.
(ex. plantar warts + athletes foot are two of the highest spreadable fungal infections)

Freestanding foot basins ensure a COMPLETE clean and they help cut down on water waste!

  • Restroom

Hand soap is bought in bulk and locally sourced in Philadelphia (from Good Buy Supply). Individual hand towels are supplied instead of paper towels and “Who Gives a Crap” brand toilet paper is stocked and ready to go!

The bathroom is available to clients and workers and is an all gender, single-occupancy space.

  • "Low-Waste" not "Zero-Waste"

The beauty industry sends about 150 million pounds of waste to landfills every YEAR.

We call our salon lifestyle “low-waste” instead of “zero-waste” because we do use single-use products at times for health and sanitation reasons.

BUT this doesn’t mean that we’re not doing our utmost to cut back on waste elsewhere at Rebel.
